This week I am going to show you how to set up a Facebook Conversion Pixel. Super, super, super important. If you are not using conversion Tracking with Facebook you are wasting a lot of money. I’ll guarantee it. So read this article and learn about Conversion Tracking. Why you need it and how to set it up. It is going to make a huge difference in your Facebook campaigns I know it.
Conversion Tracking is huge I will tell you a little bit more why it is so important later, but what you want to do is head over to http://www.facebook.com/ads/manage. You will get a screen probably a lot like this one:
It’s one of my landscaping clients. Now what you are going to want to do is go up to tools and just choose Conversion Tracking just like this:
When you do that, you are going to get a screen that looks like this:
When you get to the Facebook Conversion Pixel screen what you are going to want to do is just click green create pixel button. Now Facebook is going to default to checkout, but if you know me guys you want to be building an email list with Facebook. Do not try to sell on Facebook. You are going to be really disappointed with your sales rate. It will probably be dismal because people are not looking to buy things on Facebook. They are looking to talk with their family and friends. So what I recommend is you switch this to leads because you are going to be want to getting leads off Facebook.
Now you are going to click view Pixel code and Facebook will give you the Pixel code so what you are going to do is just hit control “A” to highlight everything.
We are going to right click on it and choose copy. I am going to show you two ways to install the Pixel code. The first way is with WordPress because I know a lot of you guys use WordPress. Then I’ll show you how to do it to just a standard webpage. I will tell you a little bit more about what it’s doing as we go through this.
Facebook Conversion Pixel for WordPress
So, now we’ve got our Facebook Conversion Pixel code and basically any page that this runs on is going to trigger a conversion of a lead. So we have to be pretty careful of where we put it. If I was doing this on WordPress what you are going to want to do is go to your plug-ins and you are going to want to get a plug-in called Facebook Conversion Pixel. It’s a free plug-in so just add that plug-in to WordPress:
After you do that, you can go to create a new post or I would recommend actually a new page. You are going to want someone to end up on a page after they do a form submit to send their email or do their checkout. If you just want to do it that way then come to the very bottom of the page and you are going to see Facebook Conversion Pixel:
Check the box, and then you are just going to paste in the Facebook Conversion Pixel code. So when you are using WordPress, I would recommend taking this Facebook Conversion Pixel Code and putting it in Notepad or have a note, put it somewhere where you have it. You will probably use it pretty often. So now after I published this page the Conversion Code Pixel will be embedded in it and anytime anybody comes from Facebook and ends up on this page it will trigger a conversion on Facebook.
Standard Websites
The second way of doing it is if you just have a standard website. You are working on the standard web pages, and in this example what you are going to do is find at the top of your page something called <Head>. In the programming world we call it a Head tag. It looks just like this.
All you are going to do is take your Facebook Conversion Pixel Code and just paste it right below the head tag just like this:
The Facebook conversion pixel code goes right below the head tag. If I save this file anytime anyone ends up on this page from Facebook it will trigger a conversion.
Now just to wrap it up, Conversion Tracking on Facebook is huge. You want to set your campaigns up that way. The reason is as Facebook starts finding people that convert it looks at them and it looks at little nuances between those people that they have in common. Facebook automatically goes and finds more people like them that are also likely to convert and end up in your email list. Make sure your campaigns are website conversions. Then set up the pixel code how I showed you. Then you will be able to get good results with Facebook.
