There’s a new social media platform in town. It’s called periscope. Ever heard of it?
Periscope is real-time live video. People join your video and post tweets. Kind of like a live chat room. Pretty cool. It gives you great instant feedback. Here is my experience with Periscope over the last week.
First, it is VERY easy to use. Just down the Periscope app and press “broadcast”. Kinda scary how fast and easy it is.
Periscope – My Own Personal Journey
Friday I was at the kid rock concert here in good old Detroit Michigan. I was waiting for the show to start and thought “Hey why I don’t I periscope this?”. So I downloaded the app and started my very first broadcast.
I was shocked to see that over 100 people joined my very first periscope. But I mean hey it was an opening night kid rock concert. Who wouldn’t want to see that? Still a brand new account and in 2 minutes I have 100 viewers? Absolutely amazing.
So then the next day I did a periscope opening my swimming pool. Kind of interesting if you want a swimming pool of your own. Again over 100 people showed up. 113 in fact.
Now I’m thinking wow. How many other social media platforms these days (in 2015) can you just open an account and get an instant audience?
Not many at all because they are so crowded.
So how do you use Periscope to grow your business or following online? I have no idea right now. But what I do know is the platform is just starting to catch some steam. Periscope just announced that they broke 10,000,000 users in just 4 months. So it is definitely catching on fast.
If you always are thinking “Man, I wish I started Facebook or Twitter from the beginning” then jump on Periscope. You will be able to easily get an audience right away. This is your chance to hop on the next big thing right from the beginning. I’m sure there will be many people a year or so from now that build huge followings and businesses from Periscope. Of course by then it will be crowded. You won’t be able to get the fast instant audience you can today.
Then again it may fizzle out an go nowhere. But that’s the problem and risk with trying new stuff.
What I can tell you is that the audience is there right now. So jump and see what you can do with it.
If you want follow along with me on persicope as I play around with it and try to figure out look for “@buildingsocial” in the periscope app.
