This article will teach you about retargeting ads. Have you ever wondered when you look at something like a toaster online all of the sudden you see ads all over the place for toasters? It almost seems like the whole internet changed and somehow it knows you are interested in toasters. The internet did not change. It just changed for you. It’s a trick called retargeting ads.
If you sell anything online then retargeting ads are a must. In this video I tell you all about retargeting ads. I tell you how they work. How to use them. I even tell you what you should be paying for them.
But if you can not watch the video here is a short summary of what I covered:
Retageting Ads – What You Need To Know
The first thing you need to know with retargeting ads is that they are not very expensive to run. This is probably a surprise to you. If your website gets less than 1,000 visitors per day (or 30,000 visitors per month) then a retargeting campaign will cost you about $1 a day.
Think about that for a second. For just $1/day you can run ads to everyone who visited your site. That’s why you see toaster ads all over the internet when you look at a toaster. Other smart companies have figured this out already. You need to be doing it too.
How Retargeting Ads Work
Retargeting ads work by adding short snippets of code from the ad provider to your site. You do this much the same way you would add website tracking code from Facebook or Google to your site.
What does the code do? It basically loads the smallest image possible (usually one pixel. That’s why they call it an ad pixel) from the ad service (think Google, Facebook) on to your site. Because that image came from the ad service they now know who that person is. They basically tag them as a visitor to your site.
So now the ad network starts tagging people and builds you up an audience. These retargeting audiences are very small in most cases. It’s why you can advertise to them so cheaply.
Your retageting ads work so much better because this small audience is very interested in your ads. I mean they were JUST at your site.
The Ad network sees your ads are very engaging. You get rewarded with insanely cheap rates.
Retargeting Ad Networks
In the video I talk about 3 major retargeting ads networks. Here they are:
Facebook – You can use retargeting ads on Facebook even if those people did not come from Facebook originally. Facebook is good enough to know who they are even if they came to your site from a Google search. The great thing about retargeting with Facebook is it is so cheap to do. Just make sure to give your campaign a $1/day budget. Pay attention to the number of times people see your ads too. It can get quite high. You will want to keep it low by not having your ads follow people around for a very long time (like only a few days).
Google – Google’s Retargeting ads are the best deal online period. Set your campaign to $.10 per click max. Google will likely get you high quality clicks for $.05 each. There is no better deal on Google’s ad platform so you should use retargeting ads with them at the very least.
Ad Roll – Use Adroll after Google and Facebook. Ad Roll Charges you on impressions and they are a middle man. So costs will be higher. Plan on spending $10-$25/week with Ad roll. They do put your ad in places Google can’t so they are still worth using. The only thing I am not crazy about is their impression model. There is no way to limit it. Your costs will be higher than Google or Facebook.
Retargeting Ads is not very hard once you get started. The good news is they do not cost a lot of money. You can’t really mess them up that bad.
