Facebook Advertising Tips – Look to Winning Ads
Let’s look at the first ad here:
Now this ad is one I was running for buildingsocialproof.com and it just signed people up through the homepage. Now the goal of this ad (and in all my ads) is to build an email list for a pretty good reason. With email you have control over the relationship. I can email people as often as I want. You know what? Nobody is going to take my email list away from me. If you are using Facebook and you got a bunch of likes on your page and you are posting stuff, they have a lot of control with who sees your status updates. That is another one of my best Facebook Advertising Tips. If you put a sale or promotion post on Facebook nobody is going to see it. That’s the kind of updates you really want to post. Updates that get people to buy. So with email I want to get them off Facebook and onto an email list so I can control the relationship and market to them. When they are ready to buy, they will buy from me, and you should be doing the same thing too.
So the goal of this ad and the other ones is to get people to sign up for an email list. You can see a button on the bottom that says Sign up.
Now here is my methodology with this ad. The first thing I did is create 4 ads. I tried 4 different pictures in it. This one for the life of me guys I don’t know why this purple email thing converted better than the others but it did. So for some Facebook Advertising tips make sure to use different ads. Not just one. I used that ad and then I changed up the headline and the text. I tried different variations of it until this ad ended up really running away from the other ones. Let’s look at how it did:
So for this ad, I actually ran it to 68,000 people and spent $628 on it but check this out. I got 640 people to sign up for my email list. That’s 640 people now I can email over and over again and build a relationship with them. Then when they are ready to buy I will eventually makes sales from them.
Notice I am not trying to sell directly on Facebook and it’s for a pretty good reason. This is another one of my best Facebook Advertising tips. Why? Because it just doesn’t work. I am going to show you that later in some of the other ones why I didn’t do that. But this one was purely email list building.
Here are a couple of Facebook Advertising Tips from the ad:
Notice how I put a link to buildingsocialproof.com in the ad text. Facebook doesn’t count these clicks, but people do come over to your site. Some Facebook Advertising Tips here would be to know that Facebook will bill you for things you do not want. So it just kind of gives you another way to get people to click a link and get them off the ad and over to your opt in page. So the takeaway from this one is to be testing your ads. You are never going to know which one works best. Always have at least 4 different ads. Look at the winners and cut the losers. Try to improve the winners and maybe you can get good results like this. I think 640 conversions at $.98 cents a piece is stellar and I’m really happy with how this ad performed.
Okay now the second one is from my PC Tattletale Computer Monitoring software. With this ad the first thing I want to point out to you is I am not trying to sell it directly on Facebook. I could put an ad up here, and say “go buy it now for $79”. I won’t make any sales.
Instead what I do is I offer them an opportunity to download a free 7 day trial. So what happens is they download a free trial and get put on my email list. Then they get automatic emails sent to them every couple of days. After they have been trying this software and are ready to buy, they buy it.
This ad I tried it with a couple of different audiences. Another one of my best Facebook Advertising Tips is to test audiences. What I found out is there are two basic audiences for this product. There are parents wanting to see what their kids are doing online. That’s one audience. Then there is another audience of employers wanting to see what their employees are doing online. It is was the employers audience that actually started resonating better. So again I tried different images. Trying different images in one of the best Facebook Advertising tips you can get. The winner is the one of the guy in the ad above. He looks really suspicious doesn’t he? He looks like he’s stealing something from the company so I think that’s why that image worked the best.
I also have a call to action button called “download” because that’s what they would do is download the software. A good Facebook Advertising Tips from my friend in QA companies for Facebook is to test your button too. I tested it with a couple of different headlines and found the one “discover what your employees are doing online” worked the best. I also put that second link higher up at the top so that it’s real easy for people to click and get over to my page and download the trial.
So let’s look at how this ad did. This ad got in front of 51,000 people so far. It didn’t do quite as well as that other ad I showed you. It’s at $1.38 per subscriber. But you know? I still make money on that because of how the conversion rates work out for PC Tattletale. I am perfectly happy to pay $1.38 per subscriber. The break even on this product is $2.42. As long as I am below $2.42, I can continue to run this campaign to this audience and it will continue to make me money. Hope you can see how all my Facebook Advertising tips work together in a campaign like this one.
Okay let’s look at the third one now. This one is for my Whizpress software. It shows people how to just post stuff to their blog easier. It’s kind of automated content curation software. What I found with this one is the crazy graphic. I think this one works because it’s so bright. Again I tried different images. That is another one of my Facebook Advertising Tips. Try different images. This is the one that worked. Then I tried different headlines also. I found out that the “Sign up” button actually converted better. This is the ad that ended up working the best for this audience.
Now let’s look at how this one did. So this one has been shown to 31,000 people and it’s gotten me 355 sign ups so far. I am pretty happy with it at a cost of only $1.07 per subscriber. Again I know my break even for this product is $3.12 cents so this one’s performing really, really well.
Now I do want to tell you something about these campaigns. You are not seeing the losers so please don’t think I just dream these ads up and add them to a campaign. Then all of a sudden out of the gate I am getting $1.07 per sign up. That’s not the case at all.
When I start these campaigns up they really suck in the beginning. That is another one of my Facebook Advertising tips for you. You know it’s like $5,$6, or $7 dollars per subscriber because they are not optimized. The whole thing you want to do is test different ad copy. Test different images and sign up buttons. What you are going to find is some of them end up working much better. You will find an ad that just clicks with people for whatever reason. They can get you low cost per conversion rates like the ads I’ve shown you here.
